Join Westport Historical Society on Sunday, July 23, at 11:15 am for activities at Captain’s Cove Marina in Black Rock Harbor at 1 Bostwick Avenue in Bridgeport. In the 18th century, the Historic Black Rock Harbor, now known as Captain’s Cove was used as a trade port and shipbuilding center. Meet us at the Maritime Museum for a tour of this Queen Anne Style Victorian house built by coal dealer Richard Dundon in 1893. On view are photos, models, and artifacts relating to Black Rock Harbor, Bridgeport Harbor, and the oyster industry in Connecticut.
From Noon to 1 pm, hop on a 40 foot former US Navy launch boat appropriately named “Chief” and tour the perimeter of the harbor to view all the historical sites, such as the lighthouse and old shipyards.
After the tour, take a leisurely stroll along St. Mary’s By the Sea and meander through the BIG little buildings. Built in Colonial and Victorian architectural styles, these miniature shops present a wide variety of gifts.
The boat is limited to a maximum of 30 people, so reserve early to get a spot!
Tickets are $20 for members and $25 for non-members. The price of our ticket includes the guided tour of the historic house and boat tour plus light refreshments. To visit their website, go to: http://www.captainscoveseaport.com/
