Though many groups sponsor holiday food drives, in the cold, snowy months that follow there is a deep decline in donations. In fact, many hunger organizations must reduce the amount of food they distribute. Another challenge is sourcing fresh produce. In the summer and early fall, many rely on local farms to help but once the growing season ends, fresh produce donations reduce to a trickle.
William Raveis Real Estate in Greenwich is tackling both problems with a winter food drive designed to raise 750 pounds of fresh fruit by using Amp Your Good’s Crowd-Feeding system. Margriet McGowan an agent with William Raveis came up with the idea to spearhead the campaign. Margriet has long ties with Neighbor to Neighbor and wanted to do more. “It was important to develop a coordinated effort to better serve Neighbor to Neighbor’s specific need.”
People can purchase the fresh fruit they want to donate online and it will be delivered to those in need. A tax receipt for the donation will be provided via email.
