Donald M. Rattner is an award-winning residential architect and educator from Greenwich, CT. His new book “My Creative Space: How to Design Your Home to Stimulate Ideas and Spark Innovation” draws on the latest psychology and productivity research to offer a practical guide to designing homes to optimize creative potential.
Here are some subjects to be discussed: How science studies the impact of the physical environment on creativity and innovation; Practical ways to apply his techniques in your own home, regardless of budget or professional expertise; How certain physical characteristics in the built environment can heighten creativity, including tall ceilings, calming hues, the display of art, access to beautiful views, and more; How mood and ambience such as lighting, room temperature, scent, and sound, influence mental processing. No prior design expertise required!
About the Author
Donald M. Rattner, AIA, is the author of “My Creative Space” and the principal of Donald M. Rattner, Architect. As a consultant he draws on scientific research to help individuals and organizations maximize occupant creativity in workplace, residential, wellness, hospitality, and retail environments. Educator and author as well as practitioner, Rattner’s publications include “The Creativity Catalog,” “Parallel of the Classical Orders of Architecture,” entries in professional reference books, and numerous contributions to print and online channels. He has taught at the University of Illinois, New York Academy of Art, New York University, Parsons School of Design, and online. His work has been featured on CNN and in such publications as The New York Times, Town & Country, and many more. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in art history from Columbia and a Masters of Architecture from Princeton.
